Tom Ford Illuminating Primer – Is it worth $75?

Tom Ford Illuminating Primer

I feel like Tom Ford is like an evil genius marketer sitting in a grand flat in London and New York signing off on the prices of his products. Because every time I think he will not surprise me with his pricing strategies, he literally knocks my socks off and this is exactly how I feel about the Illuminating Primer.

Primers are important because they help to improve the texture of your skin. You don’t want to look like a bumpy Rumpelstiltskin and this is what primers solve. They also make your make up last for longer. However, let’s not get too carried away with Tom Ford’s primer just yet.

First of all – it’s only 50 ml. In the UK, it is sold for £57, while in the US it sells for $75. This pricing is on the steep side of makeup, and it seems like the executives at Tom Ford are pricing it more like skincare that should be competing with La Mer.  Some reviewers say the product also smells bad (???) while others have said that it makes your skin look like it is glowing.

At this price point, my issue with the primer isn’t about how it works but it is more about the size of the bottle. 50ml is too small and I think Tom Ford as a brand is getting carried away its’ pricing. There are other primers on the market that don’t cost an arm and a leg like this, but do a good job. You need to make a decision if you want something luxurious or something industrial that works.
